What Actually Got Me Through Pregnancy

Pregnancy was the hardest thing my body has done. Constant nausea, almost nothing staying down, a lot of rough days. These are the things that genuinely saved me.

What Actually Got Me Through Pregnancy

I will be honest with you, because I think we need more honesty about this. Pregnancy was really hard for me. I was sick all the time, I could barely keep food down, and there were whole weeks where just getting through the day felt like a win. Nobody really prepares you for that part. So instead of the glossy version, here is the real one: the small things that got me through, on the days I needed them most.

In this guide

The first trimester

For the all-day nausea

They call it morning sickness, which is honestly a cruel joke, because mine lasted all day. The thing that helped most was never letting my stomach get completely empty: ginger, dry crackers, sour lollies and acupressure bands became my constant companions. None of it was a magic fix, but together they took the edge off enough to function.

What saved me · Keep something plain to nibble right by the bed, for the second you wake up. Mornings were my hardest hours.
When nothing stayed down

Keeping something in

On the worst days, keeping anything down felt impossible, and that is genuinely scary. Electrolytes, ice chips, tiny sips of cold water and whatever single food sounded bearable that hour got me through. I stopped trying to eat well and just focused on eating at all, and that mindset shift helped more than anything.

Gentle reminder · A few sips and a few bites is enough on the hard days. Be as kind to yourself as you would be to a friend.
Comfort

When nothing fit and nothing felt right

As my belly grew, comfort became everything. Soft, stretchy clothes I could actually breathe in, a really good pregnancy pillow, and slip-on shoes for when bending over was off the table. Feeling physically comfortable when everything else felt hard made a bigger difference than I expected.

Worth every cent · A proper pregnancy pillow was the best money I spent. Sleep whenever and however your body lets you.
My growing belly

Caring for my growing belly

My skin changed so much, and a nourishing body oil morning and night became my one little ritual that felt like self-care rather than survival. Two slow minutes, just for me and my growing belly. On the days I felt disconnected from my body, it brought me back.

Tia's tip · A gentle body oil morning and night, for your skin and your sanity. Make it your two-minute reset.
Rest

Rest, without the guilt

The biggest thing that saved me was permission to rest. I cancelled plans, I napped, I lay on the couch and did nothing, and I slowly let go of the guilt around it. Growing a human while feeling that unwell is enormous. You are allowed to do the bare minimum and call it a triumph.

Promise me · Rest is not lazy, it is literally growing a person. Take it whenever you can, and do not apologise for it.
