Queenstown: My Top 5 Must-Dos

The adventure capital of the world delivered on every promise. Here are the five things you cannot leave Queenstown without doing.

Queenstown: My Top 5 Must-Dos

Queenstown is called the adventure capital of the world, and let me tell you, it earns the title. Between the mountains, the lake and the pure adrenaline of it all, it is the most alive I have felt on a trip. If you only have time for a handful of things, these are the five I would do all over again in a heartbeat.

For the thrill seekers

Bungee jumping

You cannot come to the home of the bungee and not throw yourself off something. My husband Daniel took the leap, and watching him harness up and step off was terrifying and exhilarating all at once. It really is the ultimate Queenstown rite of passage.

Bestie tip · Do it first thing before the nerves build, and book the photos. You will want proof you actually did it.
Skyline

The Luge

Take the gondola up for the views, then race your friends down the Skyline Luge. It is such good fun and weirdly competitive, and the outlook over the lake and the Remarkables from the top is unbeatable.

For the girls · Buy the multi ride pass. One run is never enough and you will want to race again immediately.
The alps

Skiing at Cardrona

A day on the snow at Cardrona is a must in winter. Whether you are carving black runs or falling over gracefully like me, the mountain is world class and the after ski hot chocolate hits different.

Good to know · Hire your gear in town the night before to save time and beat the morning queues.
Where to stay

Stay at The Hilton

For a proper treat, base yourself at The Hilton on the edge of the lake. Waking up to those water and mountain views, then coming home to a warm, luxe room after a big day out, is exactly the kind of balance a Queenstown trip needs.

Tia's tip · Ask for a lake facing room. That view with a morning coffee is worth every cent.
Slow it down

Onsen Hot Pools and day spa

After all the adrenaline, book yourself into the Onsen Hot Pools and Day Spa. Private cedar pools looking out over the canyon, the odd glass of bubbles, and pure relaxation. The perfect way to soothe those ski legs.

Treat yourself · Book a sunset slot. Soaking in a private hot pool as the light drops over the valley is unforgettable.
